Bangkok tense as Government supporters gather

Detroit News.Net
Sunday 30th November, 2008

The city of Bangkok has become edgy after supporters of Thailand's troubled Government set up a protest camp in the middle of the city.

Thousands of red-clad government supporters have rallied in the capital, in their first major show of strength since the People's Alliance for Democracy launched took over the airports in an effort to unseat the government.

On the weekend police ordered thousands of anti-Government protesters blockading the airports to leave, warning that anyone who stayed on would be jailed or fined.

Although police have vowed to keep the two protesting sides apart, when pro-Government forces held a rally in the same part of Bangkok in September, fighting began when they approached PAD demonstrators.

THIS is a sad time for THAILAND.How embarrassing that a group of mis-guided protestors may cause the fall of the government.Everybody needs to do the right thing including the police, the military, and the courts. Everybody needs to fallow the law and the contitution of THAILAND!!

Firm hand needed

Hugh - well put.

Thailand is doing its immense discredit and this will effect its ecomony drastically - causing more blame-games, unemployment and unrest.

When a firm hand was needed, there was none - now see the result.
What a pity.

The Government Should Gather PROTEST Strength RED

The PAD Mob is reportedly have links and supports. The “RED” are majority; it is about TIME to gather in STRENGTHS and NUMBERS and PURPOSES...and “Get RIDE” the PAD Mobs who cause “so Much losses to the Country, People and Jobs now."

Make your Purpose and Determination and Action “STRONG” to the “YELLOW” problems makers. UNITED and FIGHT in STRENGTH for Democracy and Freedom.

the truth

The yellow people led by Sonthi Limthongkul and his followers are all fools. Sonthi made a promise to Thaksin that he will bring him down and never give up. And guess what.. other’s lives have been lost to keep this promise. Thaksin is no better. he’s now retaining his power of revenge. With the excuse of protecting Democracy, his allies are able to cling on to power of political control. The root of the problem is in these two. A hatred stronger then natural enemies exists between only 2 people, and the nation has to suffer.

Democracy?

People’s Alliance for Democracy is not a Democratic Institution nor are its actions legal.
The core of Democracy is that the Government is formed by the democratically elected representatives of the people and implies that each eligible person hs the right to a vote. The party with the most votes (or elected representatives) then has the right to form the Government and that Goverment has legal authority over all its citizens. Chamging the government is legally by new elections which may be called by the sitting Government.
The PAD proposes to do away with all this and suggest the Government should be selected (by who) since not all persons should be entitled to a vote.
Clearly the Army is complicit in this scheme and by his silence, so is the King.
Disenfranchising the poorer people (lesser mortals?) of Thailand is a return to dictatorship and the cronyism is the breeding ground for rank corruption. This in modern civilization must be seen as a retrograde step for Thailand.
I would urge those miscreants to respect the Rule of Law. I would urge the Police and the armed forces to fairly enforce the Law of the Land. I would urge the King to clearly inform his misguided supporters that only civil war looms if they continue on this lawless path.
