The Las Vegas Raiders signed cornerback Nevin Lawson to a one-year extension for the 2020 season on Thursday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Lawson started five of the Raiders' last seven games in 2019 and finished the season with 24 tackles and five passes defensed in 11 contests.

His season began and ended with suspensions. He sat out for the first four games after testing positive for a performance enhancing drug. On Jan. 3, he received a one-game suspension for swinging his helmet at an opposing player on the final play of the Raiders' season-ending 16-15 loss at the Denver Broncos.

Lawson will have to sit out the first game in 2020.

The 28-year-old was set to become an unrestricted free agent. He signed a one-year contract for $3.05 million last March.

Originally a fourth-round pick by Detroit in 2014, Lawson has 229 tackles and 30 passes defensed in 74 games (59 starts) with the Lions (2014-18) and Raiders.
